Understanding tamper-evident audit trails in Acrobat Sign

Every completed agreement can carry a detailed execution history — use it as evidence of who did what, when, and how identity was verified.

Digital agreements need a defensible history. Acrobat Sign audit trails record the lifecycle of an agreement and support integrity and compliance reviews.

Elements of a tamper-evident audit trail

  • Transaction / agreement IDs — unique identifiers for the agreement run.
  • IP and event logging — network and event context when parties view or sign (subject to product settings and privacy policy).
  • Identity verification methods — email, SMS OTP, knowledge-based, or stronger methods your account enables.
  • Timestamps — chronological state changes through send, view, sign, and completion.
Created → Viewed (IP logged) → Identity challenged → Signed → Cryptographic seal / completion

How Malaysian teams should use trails

  • Store the audit PDF with the signed agreement in the records library.
  • Automate download via Power Automate on completion.
  • Do not treat the trail as a substitute for legal advice on Electronic Commerce Act / sector rules — involve counsel for high-risk instruments.
